Requirements:
Must meet the Michigan Teacher Certification requirements and be a certified school guidance counselor. Successful experience in school counseling is preferred.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to the following):
Ability to Collaborate:
- Work cooperatively with counseling team, building administrators, teaching staff, parents and students to accomplish the goals of the counseling program, building and district.
- Collaborate with district and building level colleagues to design and implement a counseling program to meet the needs of students.
Technology Skills:
- Use technology for data mining, scheduling processes, data reporting, etc.
- Experience and ability to use student management systems in the scheduling process and accessing student information- required. Experience with Synergy preferred.
- Depth and Breadth of Technology skills including Google Workspace, etc.
Career and College Guidance Experience:
- Experience with current study in academic/career guidance and counseling
- Broad knowledge of learning and instructional theory, child growth and development and effective models of academic and career counseling including:
- High School Course Selection (Educational Development Planning),
- Michigan Career Pathways,
- College Applications
- Acceptance information follow up,
- Michigan College Access Portal (MiCAP),
- Michigan e-Transcript Initiative (Docufide/Parchment), and
- Financial Aide options
Academic Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the Michigan Merit Curriculum and Personal Curriculums.
- Ability track students’ academic progress regularly and meet with off track students in a timely fashion to create improvement plans.
- Responsibility for case load students, in particular at-risk
- Ability to advocate for students with teaching colleagues
- Knowledge of options for students for earning credits
Social Emotional Intervention Skills:
- Knowledge of current practices in crisis intervention, stress management, substance abuse, eating disorders, suicide, parenting, family relationships, and at-risk use. Experienced in addressing student needs in these areas.
- Experience with making community connections for the follow up counseling needs of students.
- Knowledge of community partnerships to meet the needs of students and families in distress.
Testing Planning, Supervision and Implementation Experience:
- Testing experience with MEAP, PSAT, ACT, MME, etc.
- Maintain ethical standards for test administration.
- Ability to organize and initiate the testing process in collaboration with building and district staff.
Professional Traits:
- Must be able to manage stressful situations, meet the needs of the students, parents and the building, while implementing and maintaining the curriculum.
- Time Management skills are critical.
- Must be able to present to groups. Class Presentations, Parent Programs, Staff Presentations are required.
