Primary Function: To assist students with limited or no English proficiency in improving spoken and written English skills.

 

Part Time, 35-40 hours/wk

                                                                                               

Paraprofessional will:

• Support the instructional goals of the classroom teacher
• Work to improve the students’ basic English language abilities
• Act as a liaison between the student, family, and MPS as the student transitions into a school
• Complete all required paperwork on time
• Provide positive support and be a team player

 

Tutor is also responsible for tracking students’ progress using the following;

• Written progress reports each semester
• Initial testing of students for entrance into the MLL program
• Administering a state mandated English proficient test at least once per school year

 

Required qualifications:

• Highly qualified as defined by Michigan Department of Education
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• English language instruction certification (TEFL, TESOL,TESL, CELTA, DELTS)

 

Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must provide evidence of being Highly Qualified in accordance with No Child Left Behind.
